Nintendo has finally put a real date on Rhythm Heaven Groove. The new entry in the long-dormant Rhythm series is now set to launch on July 2, 2026, for the original Nintendo Switch, giving fans their first brand-new Rhythm Heaven game since Rhythm Heaven Megamix arrived on 3DS in 2015.
The release date surfaced alongside a fresh burst of promotion through Nintendo’s own channels, including a short look at one of the new rhythm stages, Slice N Dice Kitchen. Early footage suggests that Groove is maintaining the series’ successful formula: straightforward inputs, clear visual timing cues, and the kind of catchy, slightly quirky music that makes every minigame memorable.

Although Groove is launching as a Switch title, Nintendo’s store messaging has also pointed toward expected playability on Switch 2, even if compatibility was still marked as untested when the date appeared. Unless Nintendo says otherwise, the game looks like one of those late-generation releases that should comfortably carry over as the company shifts more of its attention to new hardware.
That makes Groove intriguing for two reasons. On one level, it is shaping up as one of the original Switch’s notable late-cycle first-party releases. On another, it is simply a long-overdue revival of one of Nintendo’s most distinctive smaller series. Rhythm Heaven has never been one of the company’s most frequent franchises, but its mix of humor, music, and razor-clean timing has earned it a loyal following across the GBA, DS, Wii, and 3DS eras.
For longtime fans, the biggest takeaway is straightforward: Rhythm Heaven is back with an entirely new game, and it finally has a release date. If Nintendo keeps rolling out clips like the one above over the next few months, Groove may have a real shot at introducing a new audience to a series that has always been easier to appreciate once you hear it, see it, and feel the beat for yourself.
